SHANTERRA MCBRIDE is an international teacher, speaker, author, and preacher with expertise in youth development, diversity and inclusion and allyship. In 2014 she founded MARVELOUS UNIVERSITY, a social enterprise designed to meet the diverse needs of girls and young women as they navigate life. Working with young people from all backgrounds, Marvelous University focuses on life coaching, success planning, mentorship, and leadership development. As part of this efforts, Shanterra trains adults who engage with youth to ensure that there are well-equipped and trusted allies in the lives of the young people.

Shanterra’s voice has a global presence with invitations to speak across continents. For example, in 2018 and 2019, respectfully, she traveled to Morocco and Peru, to deliver workshops to girls on valuing themselves and others. In 2019, she spoke in four South African cities about girls’ empowerment, with an emphasis on creating safe spaces, combating gender-based violence, and anti-bullying.

As an author, Shanterra published Love Your Jiggle: The Girls’ Guide to Being Marvelous, an inspirational book for girls aged 11-17 years. Themes covered include self-worth, maintaining friendships, decision-making, conflict management, self-empowerment and diversity and inclusion.

In September 2022, Shanterra and co-author Rosalind Wisemen will publish Courageous Discomfort: How to have Important, Brave, Life-Changing Conversations about Race and Racism (Chronicle Books). An empowering handbook on how to have candid conversations around race and become a better advocate, written by a Black woman and a white woman who ask and answer 20 common, uncomfortable-but-critical questions about racism. Many people struggle to have honest conversations about race, even those who consider themselves allies or identify as anti-racist. For anyone who wants to have better, more productive discussions, COURAGEOUS DISCOMFORT is an empowering handbook that teaches you how to do just that.

Shanterra stays grounded through her faith, community of family and friends, and relationships with her mentees. These are constant reminders of her life’s purpose which is to mend, motivate and empower young people and those young at heart, to believe that they are, without reservation, completely MARVELOUS!

Shanterra resides in Dallas, Texas and obtained her bachelor’s degrees from SMU in sociology and public affairs & corporate communications and was awarded the Profiles in Leadership Award for having a significant impact on the city of Dallas and on the quality of life for girls and women all over the country. She earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University.

Maureen has worked in the philanthropy sector in various positions for over 40 years. She has served as Chairman of the Board of several non­profit organizations, an adviser to many others and an avid supporter of the community at­large. Her expertise in governance issues, strategic planning, advancement, community outreach, and board development has benefited myriad communities to date and continues to influence Maureen’s philanthropic efforts both locally and across the nation. In May 2018, Indiana University awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters in recognition of her outstanding achievements and limitless promotion of human welfare, which she consistently inspires in others.

Maureen and her husband Jim have four adult children and three grandchildren, who under Maureen’s leadership, together constitute a philanthropic team committed to their combined passions. Their priority, as donors and community activists, is to act as agents of change in the realm of behavioral and mental health with a focus on awareness and education; research and treatment; and the eradication of the stigma associated with mental illness. In pursuit of that priority, they established The Hackett Center for Mental Health, the primary policy development and operating presence of the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute for Texas in the Houston region. The Hackett Center is focused on putting policy into practice in partnership with the region’s leading health systems, so all Texans can obtain effective and efficient behavioral health care when and where they need it.

In addition to mental health awareness and advocacy, the Hackett Family is dedicated to serving the interests that make up the heart of every strong community: family, faith, health, and education.

Kelly has walked miles in her clients’ shoes. A native Houstonian, Kelly has achieved a world-class education and broad professional experiences in finance and law. After graduating from Georgetown University with degrees in international business and finance, Kelly was an Investment Analyst at John Hancock Financial Services in Boston. She later earned her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law and spent several years as a corporate securities and M&A attorney at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and Bracewell LLP. Kelly is also a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) and holds certificates in Finance and Accounting from Rice University and in Business and Comparative Strategic Management from the University of Oxford.

Kelly’s professional accomplishments are matched by her relentless dedication to give back to others. Involved in volunteer activities for over two decades, Kelly has served on the boards of health, education, and child welfare organizations, including current service for the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI; The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; St. Agnes Academy; the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame; and the Greater Houston Community Foundation, where she is a Council Member and an alumna of the inaugural class of the Next Gen Donor Institute. Beyond her board duties, Kelly is also a hands-on volunteer for treasured causes, including providing at-home ministry and eucharistic services to the residents of a local assisted living facility each Sunday since 2010.

Kelly honed her expertise in family office and family foundation management as Vice President of her family’s private foundation and as a Managing Director in Salient’s family office group. In early 2017, Kelly left Salient to found the Tectonic Advisors Family Office division. Tectonic leverages Kelly’s rare combination of personal and professional experiences, offering tailored family enterprise and wealth management services to ensure each client family can reach its own financial milestones, free up time for life’s most fulfilling activities, and build a philanthropic legacy for future generations.

Dr. Bennie Lambert joined the LSC-CyFair team in 2015 and has been in the Lone Star College family since 1991. As the Vice President for Student Success, Dr. Bennie Lambert and his team facilitate everything students need to enroll and successfully complete their entire comprehensive community college experience. He has also served as Adjunct Faculty, Director of Admissions, Registrar, and Dean of Enrollment Management. Before that he worked for McLennan Community College, Baylor University, as Academic Advisor to Athletes, Assistant Director of School Relations, and Administrative Intern to the Baylor President.

Graduating from the bottom of his high school class did not keep Dr. Lambert from earning his college education, thanks to his community college beginning. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business and Educational Psychology from Baylor University, as well as his doctorate of philosophy from Texas A&M University in College Station Texas. However, Dr. Lambert is most proud of his Associate of Arts degree from McLennan Community College. The community organizations to which he contributes his time and his talents include: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Junior Achievement, and Special Olympics. Dr. Lambert has also served on the board of directors of: the Arthritis Foundation, American Red Cross, YMCA, and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Additionally, he is the chair of the Texas ACT Council.
